Marriage Alerts
« on: October 16, 2015, 02:09:38 pm »

Just an alert to tell me when two Dwarfs get married so I can reassign them to a new apartment or at least figure out if I want to take somebody out of the military or what not.  Simple.

I'm pretty sure the game does announce marriages when they take place, although afterwards, there isn't a stamp on the units list or anything to denote married dwarfs.  Is that more like what you're thinking of?

I have never seen a marriage alert.  Where would I find them?

In the "data" folder, go to "init" and open the "announcements" file. Find the tag [MARRIAGE:A_D:D_D] - it's towards the end. After the D_D, put P - so [MARRIAGE:A_D:D_D:P]. This will pause the game when a marriage takes place, giving you time to rearrange living space, etc.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to have weddings?  There are parties already.  Wedding gifts could be bestowed from one dwarf to another, either from richer to poorer dwarves, or a dwarf who has something the other dwarf would like more.

Christenings are another interesting possibility, for when a new dwarf is born.

It would also provide a reason to rationalize Noble demands -- such-and-such a noble wants 10 gold harps to commemorate his daughter's wedding.

This, of course, generalizes into the idea of holidays.  Which deserves its own post, I think.  =)

You mean other dwarves could [d]ump all their X=silk socks=X in the newlyweds edroom ?

I would like marraiges to have to be signed off on by the leader or a new 'pastor' profession.
They can have their illicit union all they want, but getting too friendly is what causes tantrum spirals. :P
