I always imagined that they slept on the cloth they always want to trade for my stone crafts.  It would make sense for them to sleep on woven cloth mats in the middle of the forest.  Heck, maybe they're the ones who invented the sleeping bag/bedroll.

Maybe when recipes become available, that would be one of the kind only attainable by trade and good relations with them (or by kidnapping and interrogating an elven tailor - thats what I want to see an elf tied to a wooden chair with leather rope, "Not so tough now, eh natureboy *leather glove slap*").

Why can't dwarves make metal beds anyway? Or even rock beds? It's not like wood is soft and cushy, that's why you make mattresses, probably out of whatever plant passes as straw in this game.
