Metalic sand?
« on: January 02, 2016, 02:06:46 am »

I've got some stockpiles I use for gathering items for melting.
Basically, anything metal that's not masterwork or artifact in quality can be put in them, and I bulk designate them for melting.

Except I've got sandbags filling these up as well... is sand metalic?

(known bug?  *twiddling thumbs on bug tracker*)

Sand bags are under furniture and I think report of them showing in only-metal-furniture-stockpiles is already somewhere in Mantis. Just go to stockpile settings and switch those bags off.

EDIT: Could it be 157, "Stockpile settings "metal" category includes stones, gems, soil and other inorganics" or 1796, "Barrel-only furniture stockpiles are including bags of sand"?.

Silicon, one of the main components of most sand, is often classified as a Metalloid, a fairly vague class of elements that aren't quite metals, but they are kinda like metals, except when they're not.

Of course, being as one of the ways Silicon isn't like a metal is that it can't be melted down to ingots in DF, I suspect this is unintended behaviour.  Might still be worth checking your library for any tomes promoting the unorthodox classification of minerals, though... :)
