Game slow-down

Howdy all,

Not sure if this is a bug, or if there's a work-around I'm not aware of.

When playing Adventure mode, it will suddenly cease to run -- or moreso, it will slow down to about 1 frame per 20-40 seconds. You can see the "Facing Directional Arrow" change sometimes, if you watch real closely. You can also move, but it's best to make a coffee whilst you wait for the movement to happen.

If you click a couple of times, it whites out -- but eventually comes back when it's ready.

It's happened twice in two games yesterday; once where my 3-hour run crashed (no save*) whilst I was idling in my new claimed hamlet, and again when wandering through a dark fortress.

*Also, tips on "autosaving", beside saving and re-entering the game, if possible?

Where was it happening? The game slows down when it has to simulate lots of other creatures at once, and some dwarf fortresses, human towns, elven capitals (don't actually know about this one), and goblin dark fortresses get to the point where you can only move one square a second. My guess is that it's just that situation, but worse, and it takes so long your computer thinks that it has crashed briefly which is the white screen.

I've reread the post and think it would be easier to just add rather than revise. Was it a hamlet, or a city? Was it a dark fortress or a dark pits? It can be difficult to tell exactly, but the important difference is that both of those site types can go over the population cap of normal sites and break your computer.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.
Unless you're past reproductive age. Then you're pretty much an extension of your kids' genitalia

A hamlet with about 8-12 houses, if that. I've been there plenty of times in and out, but then it suddenly went kapoot. Same with the goblin dark fortress/tower thing, there were goblins running for their lives all over the place, before it suddenly went kapoot.

I might have a theory... But it could be not the same thing.

I believe it could be when you enter a new site. When I move into a new site, the game halts for about 5-10 seconds with the green arrow, and then I move and my movement is normal again. Maybe this could relate to your issue?
