"I'm sorry, my child, he is dying slowly, I had to take more food to him!"

 - If he's dying without a chance of recovery, then it's a complete waste. I won't have you fired, I won't have you tried. But consider that extra slice you took taken directly from me, from my ration. Not from the abstract 'Vault resources' - me. So if tomorrow I come and say you work double, you ask me if I would like you to do the cleaning duty as well, you got it? I hope you do. Choose wisely - either your kid gets to spend his last living moments with you, or he gets to chew on food he can't even taste and properly digest a few more times before his eyes close forever.
Now show me our storage unit, I wanna see how bad we have it myself.

Don't let go of that guy. I need a file on that man - does he have a kid? If he does, see what the medical record has to say about his illness.

Then, see if the food is stored properly - refrigerators working, etc.

After getting the Overseer's message, Mr. Hart began shaking.  Today was the day they would kick him out!  He'd be sent back into the hell above!  No, no, no, he couldn't let that happen.

Increase production of potatoes and corn, and supply the crops with extra nutrient packs.  Not that it matters, of course.  We're all going to die down here anyway.

Also, check on my stash of weapons.  Is everything ready to go for when the bandits inevitably find their way into the vault?

Miss stubs wanders about the place with her toolkit absently swinging it and smiling at her pipboy before she gets back to work.
Ms. Stubs checks the hydroponics power and the farms power and makes sure to memorize the parts in the power supplies and grab some spare parts for them she then  tinkers with her pipboy looking for hidden features or a good radio station and music.

"We don't tolerate commies in this vault, comrade."

Whack him over the head and subdue him. Then do the same to his pals.

Morris shifted in his leather chair as Emma finished recounting what she saw in the hourly reports. Mr. Foogals was in grave danger, heading to the undervault without backup and without reason. Clearing the undervault of scum was high on Morris' list, but was always undermanned and ill-equipped to successfully raid it.

"Emma, patch me in to Security Officer Foogals." His assistant diligently followed. "Mr. Foogals, desist. Return to the upper vault immediately. I'm patching to you your new assignment."

Morris has an encrypted message sent to Foogals' pip-boy, detailing a mission to investigate the kitchens for stealing rations. Mr. Grant may have let the cooks off the hook, but Morris hadn't. Have the guilty cook detained and questioned. I will render judgement.

He had his comms patched to his Executive Officer. "I've ordered Foogals to begin investigation of food stores being stolen. You are to assist him unless something you consider more important is transpiring."

"Inspection has shown that some of the food served does not meet sanitary standards, sir, I suspect the problem is somewhere in the storage units, I'm heading there now. Must be refrigerators leaking, I'll urge miss Stubbs to take care of that shoukd it be true.
I believe officer Foogals will take care of his assignment more efficiently.
I will report my findings as soon as I get there."

Grant's voice crackled and fizzed through Morris' speakers. The overseer gave a solemn nod. "Godspeed, Mr. Grant."

The demon of Starvation was held off at bay, at least for the fleeting moment. However, Zachary Grant's efficiency reminded Morris of one of his more personal tormentors: Uselessness. Zachary Grant was all that Morris should be, yet he sat on his leather chair, blind and feeble, tended to by his guardian angel, Emma.

Morris did not have a visual representation of Uselessness, but if only he had his sight back, all he'd need to do was look in the mirror, and Uselessness would stare back.

Foogals looked at his Pip Boy briefly, before turning back to the punks in front of him.

"Fine, you lil' punks, you get this one. But if I ever see you here again, I will personally wreck your asses back to Russia, you hear me?"

With that said, he backed off, turned around and returned upstairs to check out the food stores, though deep inside he knew that his future didn't lie in detective work, but rather in enforcing the peace and the values the nation held close.
