On the race selection screen, most worlds I generate show dwarves, elves, humans, and 1-3 different types animal people, which dwell in some, but usually not all, of the "normal" civilizations. There's also an option to play as a wilderness creature, which shows the full list of animal people, each of which are also all present in some, but not all civilizations.

Seeing as animal people in both categories seem to already "exist" in the world, what's the difference here? I'm pretty sure the former get the "peasant/notable person" choice and wilderness creatures don't, but I'm more curious what world gen events lead to this distinction.

He views any show of emotion as offensive, sees introspection as important, values self-control, and strongly believes that a peaceful and ordered society without dissent would be best. He believes that mastery of a skill is one of the highest pursuits, values nature, and finds romance distasteful. He holds well-laid plans and shrewd deceptions in the highest regard.

there isn't any major difference like say 'human outsider is with human peasant or locally famous', the wilderness menu isn't a list of animalmen outsiders more so a list of all the available animal people the world gen can spawn in.

Animal man tribes can now 'civilize' during worldgen.
The first menu represents all the civilized races living at dwarf, elf and human sites (including goblins, animal-men, beardless dwarves living amongst humans, etc).

The full menu of animal-men casts you as a previously wild animal-man who has civilized (possibly the first of your kind).
