Military not training
« on: July 17, 2008, 06:48:17 am »

I am having trouble getting my melee units to spar at all. Does anyone have any hints about making this happen more?

I have a barracks made from a bed but on my last fort I tried a weapon rack too in case it was that. Yes the units in queston are off duta at all times.
I only have two melee dwarves so this might cause less times when they are both free to spar, in my last fortress I had 4, and the recruits stayed recruits for years. This is not a problem with the new version, my last fortress was on the previous version.

Well, I'm assuming that this is with 39b rather than 39c (released just now).

I had the same problem when I was beginning one of my militaries, when I checked the error log (which is now about 3mb as opposed to about 200k from last version) I found that when you have a small (e.g . 2 dwarf) military what will heppen is one of them will get a path blocked error halfway there, and since the other dude now has no partner, he will cancel it too. This will happen a lot until the finally get to the barracks, then they'll spar for 3 microseconds before trying to go and rest.

Rinse and repeat.

My (guessed) solution is that the new bug fix that Toady just released which fixes the path blocked error should help it.

oh well i gave up iv set them to harrass wild animal and chase opponents so hopefully they will get some practise (or at least a fitness boost) from chasing camels and mountain goats.
