Weird FPS death?
« on: December 18, 2015, 03:15:35 pm »

Hey guys I am experiencing some weird FPS death in my current fort. My fps just went from 55-60 to 8 and it is not changing up or down... I have 40 dorf fortress, few animals and I dont know what triggered it because nothing happened in game when fps died down, no migrations, sieges or stuff like that... Sometimes I see boost to 30-40 but it lasts for few seconds then goes back to 8.

Ive already disabled temperature and GFPS to 10, is there any possibility to save my fort from untimely death?

- Animals who get in their head to path through (animal) locked door are said to cause massive FPS drain.
- In the autumn, the falling leaves cause a drain (recovering after a while).
- Cancellation spamming can cause it.
- Large fluid flow (like draining a large body of water).
- Starting a 100 z level magma pump stack
- Large goblin invasion (which shouldn't apply in your case).

Caravans also kill fps when they arrive.

Have you uncovered all caverns? There was a storie of cracking open the 3rd cavern to find it flooded with zombified crundles

Ive got pen locked and when I butchered hens inside my fps recovered! Seems it was problem with animal pathfinding

Good find. I wonder why. Did you have a nest box somewhere outside the locked pen? Perhaps wanting to lay eggs persists even when no path is found?

Yeah I had two pens one for hens other for chicken and hen one had doors which I somehow locked and one of the hens wasnt hauled yet to that pen. It was chilling outside and when it got butchered fps restored... Dont lock your pens :)

I lock mine, but if I suddenly find myself suffering from an FPS drop unlocking it is one of the first things I'll try.
