- Needing a huge area
- A chasm
- Magma

This one is easy. Just take any map. Go to a forest and look around until you find  a river and a sedimentary flux. Sedimentary stone has magnetite and coal, they're  a flux and they appear far from magma.

Sedimentary flux:
Chalk
Dolomite
Chalk

Or if for some bizarre reason you can't find any of them look for marble.

So I can count on coal even if there's not much in the way of trees?

Oh, and this will be without an Aquifer?
