Listening to Performers
« on: December 03, 2015, 04:36:38 pm »

So I've got a tavern in my new fort, and some visitors showed up... Including a Human Bard who's here to tell stories. What I'm wondering is, how do I listen to them? Similarly music, etc... I'm seeing descriptions of songs and poetry here on the forums, but I'm not at all figuring out how to access this information in the games.

Can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing?

I'm not sure that there actually is a way to read/listen to the procedurally generated artworks.  We probably only have descriptions of them.

Find them in the residents list (u), highlight them, and press (j). This will give you the description.

Thank you. Does that work for stories too?
It's weird that I can check what story my own dorfs are telling just by pushing enter, but when a visitor tells a story there's no obvious option to listen in.

Yep, should work the same way. You can even do it on one of the observers to get to the same screen.

A ha! Thank you, that's what I was missing. Right now the visitors are telling a story about a human law-giver from 150 years ago.

Excellent!
--Runs to try it out. Discovers loaded game will only run a couple of seconds before crashing every time.

Oh well. Time for a new fortress...

Supposedly smaller regions don't have the crashing issue that medium and large worlds have. Every medium world I've genned will eventually start crashing, not randomly but on the exact same calendar day every time. I've even retired my fortress and tried to start an adventurer and the game crashes while advancing the time forward two weeks, on the same day that fortress mode crashes.

Remove them via DFHack?

Worldsim crashes are related to uninitialized poem variables, according to what Toady said on the bug tracker.

Less civs and smaller world = less poems = less chance of a crash.

Anyway, 40.02 should come out in a day or so so...
