Checking if an ore is present on embark?

As you know, dfhack isn't updated for 0.42 yet. And besides, it's overkill. All I want is binary: is there at least one tile of ore <x> or no? (In my case, any of the ores of iron.)

Is there a way to check if an ore is present in a given (fortress-mode) save via modding? Could you, I don't know, change the raws to make the game crash when it is / isn't present or something?
