Emergency Tasks
« on: November 29, 2015, 08:49:38 pm »

Sometimes while I'm playing DF theirs a couple situations where their needs to be a really important task done but it takes a while for someone to do it, such as having a lever pulled to shut a drawbridge in a seige or having a floodgate shut so it won't flipping flood your fortress. ( I've had some bad run ins with the efficiency of dwarven plumbing)

Sure you can turn off all their labor preferences but they still sleep, eat, and take breaks. I wish there was a command that made the dwarves stop what they were doing and complete a task even if that interrupts tea-time. Maybe they would get unhappy or something but it would be worth it.

There's...uh, actually a recently introduced feature that was created for that very specific purpose. If you press "!" after selecting any given task (such as having a lever pulled) the closest qualified dwarf will drop anything he's currently doing to execute that task immediately. Or at least I think that's how it works, as they may not drop everything and just prioratise the task but it's a lot faster than before.

'n' for 'Do this Now'. Adds an exclamation mark to the task. Works pretty well too. Or there's 'priority 1' which does pretty much the same for designations.

Nothing available for building constructions though as far as I know. The phrase 'Build a wall now, the screaming hordes of hell are coming!!' just isn't part of a dwarves vocabulary.

I think it's on the tasks menu of the building/object, where the cancel/suspend/repeat options are.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.
