Powering pumpstack in "The Quick Fortress" blueprint
« on: November 20, 2015, 02:14:53 pm »

### Summary:

I'm Using Quickfort's "The Quick Fortress" blueprint and I'm having trouble powering my pumpstack for the waterfall.

### Question:

I just started using Quickfort via its "The Quick Fortress" blueprint. For the most part I've gotten everything to work right [1] but now I'm stuck trying to implement the waterfall--the problem is that it doesn't mention how to power the pumpstack let alone build said implementation (it's also my first time building a waterfall/pumpstack and the mechanics of it all are throwing me off).

So now that I have everything built, what's the easiest way to power the stack (I need 320 power units)? At first I thought I'd build water wheels in front of the top 2 pumpstacks but then I found out (via the wiki) that the wheels can't be on the same level as the water (Note: I'm assuming that water wheels would probably be better than windmills at this point). Is there a way to incorporate wheels into this design outline or would I have to build some sort of dwarven reactor somewhere else and then connect it to the stack? Thanks.

[1] As an aside, it seems that the OS X functionality of Quickfort is sort of limited--is this accurate? Because the implementation itself was kind of a pain to figure out and even then it didn't always work right. But that's another post, I guess.

last time i tried the quickfortress i was getting errors on some of the setup blueprints and i had to manually set stockpile links and stuff.

i don't remember where the stack is, but can't you just construct an area above the pumps for wheels? generators aren't a bad idea though.

First off, thanks for the response.

There were a lot of kinks in the macros I had to work out. For instance, the only way any 'build' macro would work is if I started from the workshops menu and not the build menu (i.e. 'b-w' instead of just 'b', which I thought would be the correct menu) and the stockpile linking for the booze around the staircase would only work if you had like four floors in a row of food stockpiles already set up and even then, like you said, I think it would work for some but then miss others.

The main problem is that I followed the blueprints so closely that I never planned for a power station and now that I have a full fortress there doesn't seem to be any room. In addition, the stack is so big that I'm not even sure if I could get the wheels started up via dwarf-power (wouldn't I need at least 16 dwarves pumping at the same time since it's 16 floors of side-by-side pumps?).

There are no limits to reactor priming with dwarf power. Just cascade it. I.e. put a gear assembly between reactor and pumpstack, turn it off, start reactor (a single dwarf operated pump should be enough, but you can do this in stages as well, if it gets really huge), turn on gear assembly to connect pumpstack only when the reactor is fully started.
