What is the Titan made of ? If it is flesh, wooden spikes should do well. Otherwise, there are exploits to get sand. Cavern mud or magma-flow may turn into sand, if you build a construction over it and remove it.
EDIT: Oh, sorry, the Titan is already gone. It works against goblins or the next Titan too.

I just had to update. I've been walling up every accidental entrance created to the caverns, which is good because those caverns have Forgotten Beasts in them, one in each. Because I'm playing on an old laptop (or at least I hope it's because of that and when I play on my new computer things might go faster) I play at about 3 FPS so I leave orders and go to eat some dinner while the dwarves carry them out. While I was gone, a staircase was dug into some open space about the cavern and one of the flying FBs got out. He was a winged feathered cat who shot fireballs. He was my favorite of the FBs in the cavern and had pretty much claimed the topmost cavern as his personal domain. Well he got loose into the fortress while I was eating dinner. He killed an engraver and a woodburner but my manager, a long term Rainfountains resident who has been feeling rather stressed of late met him on the stairs and bisected him with a copper axe while the cat was fighting a war dog. The war dog and the manager are both paralyzed at the moment but I'm hoping they'll recover. Meanwhile I'm fortifying this entrance to the caverns. I do still need it, I have a dude in a mood upstairs in the craft shop demanding leather and wood, which are the two things I do not have. So far so good on the tree front, the current problem is actually the lack of trees. I miss the days when I could design fortresses that he fruit trees and the like incorporated into them.

PS - The titan died awhile ago. The fortress is currently under lockdown because of the Craze Poison... or at least I thought it was the Crazed Poison, now I'm not convinced it isn't the elves of the Confusing Orange betraying us. We spend three seasons of every year under siege, then the siege lifts just in time for the Confusing Orange to come and take away all our old clothing at knock down prices. This latest siege has a suspiciously high number of elves involved.

As it turns out the beast the manager took it out was the one from the lower caverns and not the cat camped out in the upper cavern. I forget what that one was. Also, I have no idea why the manager had an axe. She's not a woodcutter or in the military. She's just been incredibly stressed lately. I'm not complaining though, she saved the entire fortress.

Don't pay attention to the body piles in every fort I play, I swear I'm competent at this game.
