Customs apply to laptops as well, you know. It'll depend with the custom's officer's mood whether they'll insist on charging your friend or not (technically it's smuggling ;) )

It will probably be hell to solve issues with warranty, too. And you will have issues. That I can guarantee.

I got a similar offer from a friend in the US once, and ended up declining it precisedly because of the risks involved.

But hey, informed consent and all that: you're aware of the risks, now, so, whatever rocks your boat

Actually no, no need to pay customs for personal items like a personal video recorder, camera, cellphone, laptop. That's how people manage to go on business trips.

I'm aware of the risks. In fact, I have a friend living over there, that may get the delivery and I could ask him to test the computer, and if there's any failure return it for warranty. I can always arrange somebody to pickup a couple months later if it comes to that, I suppose.

Quick update:

I've placed my order in Amazon for the Apache GE72 with the more expensive features (still a pretty good price). Good thing it was something like $200 off ($100 was because of Black Friday).

It should be arriving to its destination in a week, then I just have to wait for someone to pick it up while traveling.
