The title sums it up. No wiki or forum search is answering my question, and I fear it may be impossible? Any help is appreciated.

You mean the minecarts themselves or their contents? For contents use a track stop at the top with the track running parallel.

For carts themselves, it may not be possible to do what you want. You can derail them down the hole, but if they're assigned to a route they won't be kept in the stockpile. If the minecart is unassigned, you can only move fluids with it, because you can't simply drop items into minecarts.

As Bumber said, a track stop causes a mine cart to dump in the direction set up on construction (can be changed afterwards if a DFHack plugin is used). Search the wiki for Quantum Stockpile if you're after a static setup (a normal QS dumps onto the ground beside the track stop, but a hole is no different technically). Note that you want a stockpile at the bottom of the hole unless you want the dorfs to go down an move the stuff to a stockpile (and get hurt by falling stuff).

Thanks guys. I set a mine-cart stop to dump down a hole. I'm feeding ores, stones, and charcoal from different z levels into the forges deep under the earth to eliminate hauling. Its all groovy now.

Beware that you may have items that will fall down the hole at the same time your Master Armorsmith is grabbing a block of coal to take to the smelter. They WILL kill him. An interlocking set of hatches and pressure plates may be a good idea.
