Are necromancers sane?
« on: November 19, 2015, 11:40:26 pm »

Watching necromancers fight is funny.
They'll run away the moment one of their own is hurt.
They'll scream out "Death is all around us.  The horror..."

I'm currently being attacked by a professional drunk of a necromancer: Domi Galkaslada, Human Drunk necromancer

Am I missing something here, or are these guys supposed to be off their rockers?  I'd expect necromancers to understand and welcome death in other sentient beings.  Seek it out even, like that dwarf that punches the mayor's kid off a bridge in a fit of anger.  Not run from it like a four year old that's just learned the wrong way that the gun he found shoots real bullets.

Hundreds of years stuck in a tower with only rotting flesh for company, writing critiques of their own work repeatedly for all eternity. Yeah, they're probably completely bonkers for the most part.

They're all mostly still obsessed with their own mortality too, which probably doesn't help them think straight when a kobold charges them weilding a spoon.

From a gameplay perspective, yes they're totally sane. Unfortunately, like all other sentient beings, they're absolute wusses as well.

It actually works rather well in-game I find. It causes them to run away from the axe squad of choppy murder-doom which is probably a good move. Remember, their only value to their side in combat is resurrecting corpses which is a sort of passive ability. It just happens when there are corpses nearby. They should never ever engage in actual combat.

Always a safe default assumption in this game

I'm not sure, but I think it's intended to be the opposite of this. They become so obsessed with death that they will go to great lengths to avoid it (becoming a necromancer, living in a tower, running away when you stub your toe...)

... running away when you stub your toe...

Ares was famous for this sort of thing.

a professional drunk of a necromancer: Domi Galkaslada, Human Drunk necromancer

Now there's a dream job for you.  If only I had studied the dark arts...

Ever looked at Silentthunders? They can be pretty dangerous, what with the immortality-spawned skill abuses.
