Full resolution exports from legends
« on: October 13, 2015, 10:49:28 am »

I am aware that there are detailed maps but I was wondering if it was possible to have full detail exports like the tiles you would see when wandering in adventurer or an embark location.

It is likely that the data for that is calculated as-needed for those modes and thus would require extra generation time for the export, and that the resulting files would be huge (i'd suggest breaking it into chunks rather than one image). I just thought it would be nice to have a full detail map of the area your adventurer is wandering in.

(did a search didn't see this in the first couple pages so hope i am not posting an existing idea)

Also, I am new to forums so Hello!

Welcome to the forums. A nice suggestion, but I think you are right that it should limit the size of the exported images somehow. I'd imagine computers would struggle showing an image of that size without specialised viewing software.

There are fan made utilities that do some of what you ask. Japa's IsoWorld is probably your best bet if you want detailed maps of your adventurers, but I think you need to visit chunks of the map with the utility working before it'll render them in detail. You also have the unreleased work by mifki where whole worlds are being exported at the tile level. A pocket world is apparently over 20GB.

yeah Tile level detail is what I was after, but only for the surface layer not every Z-Depth, I will look into those tools.

I figured breaking the images into 4kx4k or 8kx8k chunks would make sense, and lots of data was expected, that's why Google invented the maps API :P

not sure if mr Toady One ever considered such an enhancement to the legends export (with the appropriate warning about time and disk)
