Suddenly aquifers

So I have aquifers turned off in the Lazy Newbs Pack, because I have no desire to accidentally all the water. I went to start a new fort in a world I had generated already...and now there's suddenly aquifers in it?! I have never had them turned on, so there shouldn't be any here...has anyone else experienced this? Also is there any way I can...I don't know, erase them without creating a void layer? Will rebooting DF fix it?

I am so confuzzled.

Protip: statues cannot be made out of wood unless they're artifacts. If you see what appears to be a wooden statue outside your fort and it's not an artifact, destroy it immediately.

Turning of aquifers only efects newly genned worlds.

If you really want to use this one without them, there is a dfhack command to remove them

The thing is I've had them turned off ever since I started playing Dwarf Fortress. I never turned them back on, so this world was generated without them.

But that is good to know. Does it need to be used in-game or before embarking or just whenever?
