Best version (and mods) for adventure mode
« on: September 08, 2015, 03:18:21 pm »

Hi. Which version of DF is the best if I want to play only adventure mode?
To be honest I don't like fortress mode. I want to be adventurer and kill some bad guys/beasts

I tried 0.34.11 with wanderer097 and I think it's a great choice (and It's a badass version), but maybe you can suggest me a better choice.

*toots my own horn*

https://github.com/maxthyme/dfstuff/tree/master/wanderlust for df 40.24 (and shouldn't be hard to update for the new version whenever it comes out) currently.

I had a lot of fun balancing it by using cheaterbuffed characters to where it is pretty damn lethal normally, folded in a lot of the adventurer crafting reactions from the wanderer's friend/wanderer's mods so I went with wanderlust (though I forgot there was a tileset with that name >.<) and then I ended up working in tougher materials for all sorts of races, megabeasts, ways to make stuff from them if you survive and kill them, buffing items made from them, and I took some inspiration from Stal's armory as well.

I tried to keep everything in the vanilla file layout though so you can just drop them in without having to worry about it conflicting with others. It also includes the stuff I did to keep goblin fortress populations more reasonable to cut lag.

Edit to add: extracting the wanderlust folder into your df/raw/objects folder and overwriting the old files (creature_standard.txt, body_default.txt, etc, etc, etc) is all that's needed to get it installed and working, though it will need a new world gen.
