Food is too easy

Aquiring food via farming and fishing is too easy,how can i make plants need a whole year to grow?And also can i lenghten the time required to catch a fish?

A) This is a non-DF-related board. This should probably go in Fortress Mode, Gameplay Questions, or DF General Discussion.

B) I believe you can mod plants to grow more slowly. There should be a number for growth time you can change in the raws.

C) Fishing is hard coded, you can't really change it.

Guys, he's talking about real life. Fishing trawls and advancements of farming technology have made things far too easy for the human race.

Guys, he's talking about real life. Fishing trawls and advancements of farming technology have made things far too easy for the human race.
Why don't we just make machines that simulate hard labour in exchange for food resources. Things like that Russian squat machine that gave you free metro tickets in exchange for squats, only with food.

If I were God, Earth would be a custom world gen with nothing but terrifying tundra and badlands, with no minerals and ubiquitous saltwater aquifers. The book of genesis would be like 1300 pages long with all the world gen rejections, but hey, at least anime would never exist.

....annnd right here is where the op moved the thread to the grown-up's table.

There was a mod for realistic farming in 34.11.  I have no idea if it has been updated for 40.24

I also really wish there were other risks other than simple invasions and mega beasts. Food should be a big concern along with water for alcohol production. Natural disasters such as flooding, volcano eruption, and illness should also add more challenge.

Agreed. Decay scripts by omniclasm help, though.
