Updating a save
« on: August 30, 2015, 07:44:24 pm »

Can some one give me a step by step process from updating the lazy newb pack from 40.24 r14 to r15? I really have no clue and dont want to lose my awesome fort.

It's extremely simple, and you don't even need to risk your save, as it remains unchanged.

- Download r15 and unpack it beside the r14 version (i.e. in the same directory as the r14 version resides in, NOT inside r14).
- Run the "Copy data from an onder Starter Pack.bat" script.
- You've now got a copy of your r14 save inside the r15 DF copy's save directory. The r14 one remains inside the r14 directory structure.
- Start the r15 version of "Starter Pack Launcher (PyLNP).exe" (or make a link to the desktop and start via the link).
- Continue playing.
- At any time you can start the r14 version of PyLNP and continue your fort from there (which remains as it was when you copied it; r15 events have not affected it).
- If you're REALLY nervous, copy the save directory inside r14. This copy can then be renamed to the original name to restore anything that's lost, but if you're this nervous it's better to copy the save folder to an USB stick to protect against a hard disk crash (You don't actually need to copy the whole save folder; it is sufficient to copy the regionx folder of your active fortress inside it, but I have a feeling you're a bit new to this, so it might be to overdo things).
