LabourDF fix
« on: August 21, 2007, 06:04:00 pm »

If anyone is interested, I posted a fix for the LabourDF utility on the wiki:
http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Utilities#LabourDF

You'll need to compile it yourself though, or wait for Flap to release a new version.  I'm not going to release someone else's code without permission.

Um, if it is open-source, why not?

Good manners. Usually best to at least make the original author (of smaller projects) aware that you're going to release: For all you know, they may have made updates in the meanwhile, you may have made errors, the code could be cleaner, etc. (Had it happen to me - somebody released xxx v. 2, saying the original was 'unmaintained', while it actually had been maintained the whole time, and the supposed version 2 was actually inferior to version 0.3. Needless to say, I was not impressed...) Not saying any of it applies in this case, but it's always best to be careful.

Exactly!

Even though this is the internet, I like to try to be polite  :)

Then why not just say "This version has been created to fix a bug that I found. It may or may not be inferior to the main version etc"?

EDIT: I don't mean for you to say the word "etc" but for you to finish the sentences I started there.

Because I don't feel like going to all the trouble of hosting a fixed version etc.  I'm hoping Flap will see this thread and my entry on the wiki and fix it himself!

So not "I don't want to be rude" but "I don't care enough to go to the trouble to upload it to a website like http://www.filecrunch.com/  and make the appropriate edit in the wiki."

...so Savok what you're trying to say is "I don't understand courtesy among developers." Got the message loud and clear.

(see what I did there?)

this way Savok can pimp the wiki in one more thread  ;)  Should make his signature "Read the Wiki" and be done with it

I guess I could have been even lazier and just fixed the software for myself without saying anything!
