How to view map?

I'm sorry if this turns out to be a simple answer that I just overlooked, but I wasn't able to find any reference to what I'm looking for on the wiki or forums. Essentially, what I'm asking is if there is a way to view the map in the same way as just after creation, where you are able to look around and it shows full town names like "Human Hamlet of such-n-such".

Legends Mode has a map which you can step through historically which I think also gives you the site names like the one you see in worldgen. Doesn't look very pretty though. Better option, is that Legends Mode has an export button. Use this, then you can load your map into a clean looking external viewer. Legends Viewer is good, I hear Legends Browser is nice if you not using Windows.

But, yeah, seems to be no way back to the exact map interface you get after worldgen.

There's a hacky solution to this: Export the world-gen seed, re-gen with it, then abort once you're done viewing.

Hopefully the new in-game civ-screen map will work like this but with the extra pops/prisoner/artifacts information. Just have to wait and see, I guess.

The absolute easiest way is to use a tool like Legends Viewer (on Windows) or Legends Browser (on other platforms).  When I'm not doing that, I use the historical map in legends mode along with exporting the site information (as others have said).  I've done a youtube series which starts out with using vanilla legends mode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZgSR-75Q1M&list=PLbk0Ip-VIugNQWLgPw5k6UTpK4fLlk53B  Unfortunately, I got super busy at work and it's languished for the better part of a year.  The first 2 videos are about world creation and legends mode.  The production values are not spectacular, but it should give you some hints.
