Items being left at Trade Depot?
« on: July 24, 2015, 06:54:25 am »

Okay this has been an issue as long as I can remember and the more successful my fort is the worse it gets.

After trading, many items will be left at the trade depot. I can have Dwarves idling, but they won't clear all the items that I purchased. They seem to always remove the unsold items sent the depot, but leave some purchased items there. Often things in barrels, gems, and clay for example. There are appropriate stockpiles with available space that are accessible.

The only way I can reliably get a depot clear of items is to deconstruct it and build a new one. One the items are on open ground they immediately being hauling them.

Anyone else have this issue? Can you offer a way to stop this from occurring?

I regularly observed that problems with my forts, several items aren't picked up by the dwarves in a depot and will only be picked up if i deconstruct it.
I never found another solution that wasn't involving deconstructing the depot.

Any commonality to the items?
I've thought I've seen this happen a few times, but I usually found I had neglected to have a valid stockpile for said item, or just ran out of space. The other thing is even hauling stone seems to be a higher priority (probably 2nd only to fishing) than hauling items from depot.

The more appropriate question becomes, are they awesome and dwarven enough.

I have a stockpile layer on level 3 of my fortress that is open to everything except refuse. That's outside.

Nobody ever empties the Depot. I always deconstruct it after every caravan.

Same experience, was always like this, even in earliest .34.

If you post a save, someone will take a look at it.

You can also "dump" the items in the depot (manually from the 't' screen, or d-b-d over the depot) to get your dwarves to move the items. Bulk dumping can have the undesired effect of dumping items out of containers (sand bags, etc.), however.

Make sure you have empty cages enabled in animal stockpile and make sure you don't buy large gems.

Outside that you can try de-constructing the trade depot and rebuilding it once everything is moved.
