Ever Make a DF Recipe in Real Life?
« on: July 24, 2015, 08:45:11 pm »

Has anyone read the description of a recipe in Fortress mode and tried to recreate it in real life?  If so, how did it work out?

I'm not about to cook my cat, and it's hard to mince ale, sooo...

But seriously!  I think so of it could be yummy if it wasn't treated too literally.  Mushrooms are delicious, and even though I'm an avowed carnivore, some recipes for muhroom loaf look so good.

I'd certainly be willing to try. What exactly would an accurate equivalent for plump helmets be , though?

A purple, edible mushroom.

So, I was going to order and cook some of these. However, if not cooked properly they can be poisonous.

What else do dwarves cook? Eggs? Syrup? I say we take a vote and find someone willing to cook and eat it.

they're not really poisonous, they just have a chance of causing indigestion/allergic reactions if not cooked at all.

I'm more likely to do something gimmicky. Add purple food coloring to a biscuit recipe and to some mushroom gravy and make plump helmet biscuits and gravy.

Someone needs to post an odd recipe they found that could conceivably be made in real life. I'm playing an above-ground human fort, so I only have mundane things like "carrot stew".

Cook mushrooms and <cow cheese> into a patty in a skillet and voila, +Cow Cheese Biscuits+!
Bonus points for some weird, DF worthy cheese, like alpaca cheese.

Why do dwarves act utterly insane?
They act this way if your fortress has only plum helmet wine.
Take a look at Headshoots.

Those shroomdwarves tripped the place into oblivion and back, all while laughing funnily at the morphing red water flowing down the halls.

NJW made a thread not long ago where he and myself drew and hypothesized what the prepared meals have looked like in reality.  It died because not enough people posted meals.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=151325.105

also, personally, I've never turned a dwarf fortress meal into a real one.  I've turned real world meals into df ones, though.

Pizza -> *Pig intestine Roast*
*Pig intestines* *Hard wheat flour* *Tomato* *Cow Cheese*

Cookies -> *Dwarven Sugar Roast*
Dwarven Sugar + Hard Wheat Flour + Chicken Egg + Rock Nut Oil

I really want to try making a mushroom into ale, turning the ale into a biscuit and then turning the biscuit into soup. Nom Nom Nom

I guess mushrooms do have carbohydrates.  So it could be possible to brew them..  Not sure how well that would work though.
