In the middle of an air less, frozen vacuum. You think getting out bed in the morning to take a leak is bad? Heh.

As an aside, I think they heard people about the pissing and crapping. The tool tips on the screen actually say urinate and defecate.

It's rather hilarious that you'd strip off your spacesuit at -20C to answer nature's call though.
That sounds like a good way to get yourself killed. Does he actually take his suit off, or do you just press a button and your excrement meter turns green again? If there's no evidence against it in the lore, in his diaries or anything, then I would assume that his suit interfaces with the toilet so that he doesn't have to get out of it. He has to get out sometime though. Is the hub powered and heated?

If anything (rather, this would be my explanation if I was the writer) you should just have to change your space diapers every once in a while. Real astronauts wear diapers when they perform EVAs in case of emergency. But then that still involves taking your suit off. If it's quite soft sci-fi maybe a better explanation would be disposable bags and you just need to replace them.

You hit a button, the screen blurs and then your needs are relieved. But it looks like a standard toilet and was clearly meant to be used by regular people.

The hub is. The rest of the base would be but all of them start the game as unpowered vacuums. Come to think of it, I've never tried to use a bathroom when I'm exploring. Usually it takes several meals to need to poop and you can urinate very soon after you drink to deal with the need. It's not like the need to pee shows up 3 hours later when you're exploring.

Also something else I didn't know: Contamination gain is directly related to thirst. And thirst is directly related to sprinting. So sprinting amps up contamination rates for the character. It's not a huge deal since you can manufacture the cure, but, it requires a lot of Monster Blood to make just one dose of the basic decontamination pill. So sprinting everywhere is effectively bad for your health. Seems like once you hit 20 thirst the rate of contamination increases significantly. Below 20 and even below 10, the rate is very very slow.

Contamination is reasonably easy to manage. It increases rather slowly (and not at all if you've not been hurt). And the pills are very effective.

I've found that the basic anti-infection pill can successfully cleanse you if you take it before hitting 50 contamination. I stay on the safe side, doing it at 40-45.

It's not tough to manage, but I understand why new players are dying of contamination early on in the game: because they're sprinting everywhere and probably not hydrating until they've hit 40 or 50% thirst. That can cause Contamination to ramp up pretty fast. Especially because that relationship isn't really described anywhere in game.

If the suit had such faculties, why wouldn't he just dump the contents anywhere in the abandoned, airless vacuum of the uninhabited areas instead of just the toilet? Considering the suit is custom designed.

The hub is powered and heated, but nowhere else is unless you decide to replace the filters for the machines.

I have been playing this game too much... It's getting harder, too.  Bleh.

Yeah I've reached stage 3 (I think) and 28% global infection.

And I see what you mean about linear enemy growth. It's not too bad yet....I've only now run into the Fast Spitters and damn are those things irritating. The brutes aren't bad except when you open a door and suddenly you're halfway across the previous room with a broken leg.

Spiders are super freaking annoying. They're pretty much the only reason I can't move through a level at a good clip, because I have to nance around with their endless baby making. What's Stage 4 evo like I wonder. Do they just pop out Stage 2 Spiders Ad Nauseam.

The weapons do feel inadequate, or at least uninteresting. If the game swarmed you with any more stuff I'd say they're not up to the task.

Really hoping at least better and more diverse weapons are part of the final release plan. All this game really needs is some zany weapon modding to reach maximum fun.

But there's tons of stuff the game could have but is not in evidence.
-More grenades types.
-Mines.
-Flamethrower-like Weapon.
-Turrets.
-Drones.
-Stealth Field.
-Radar.
-Portable Recharge Stations.
-Remote Cameras.
-Dual Weapons.
-Minigun.
-Limited Teleportation.
-Door Welder.
-Night Vision.
-Body Augments. (Faster base move, health, melee damage, reduced stamina drain, contamination resistance, harder bones, thicker blood, added carrying capacity.)

With all that they could dial up the # of enemies way up.

Maybe some of that stuff isn't necessary due to highel tech I haven't seen, but as it is it feels like you discover most things at Tech Level 1 and stick to the same list the whole game. The only non-linear research I've seen is armor.

Also can someone tip me off to something? Does suppressing the infection at one site have an effect on the Global Infection rate, or does it just keep the enemy spawns down? I ask because I've gotten Filters and Regulators MKII but honestly going back through 1/2 the game's areas to replace the standard ones.....seems like a total drag, and a waste of rapidly diminishing time. Is it worth it? I've replaced the Mine, Biosphere, Research and Engineering ones.

Also, when the reactor has started to overheat and then you cool it back down....does that "time to overheat" ever go back up to 3 hours? Or did I literally lose half my "oh shit" time, and the next time the reactor overheats I've now only got 1.5 hours to get it enough power? I've started shutting down power to the first 4 real adventure areas because there's no way the reactor can deal with the added stress of each new area being powered on. At least with MKII tech. Right now I'm almost more worried about the reactor going critical than I am about the infection.

Also, Electro Resin is freaking killing me. I went from feeling like I could ignore junk to taking almost every last piece of it with me on my way out of levels. When I have to go through and start replacing all the MKII Reactor Cores I'm going to be seriously screwed if I haven't collected enough Electro Resin to meet demand.

Sectors only contribute to global infection once they pass a certain infection level; so the basic ones should be fine.

And yeah, Electro resin is a huge issue once you get to later tiers, it's easily the rarest out of the three basics.

Yep.  I learned the hard way to grab any metal and electro-resin.  I also agree that more guns are needed, I think there is going to be a free update sometime soon that may add some of it.

Also, remember that you can repair the cores in the little repair thingy, so you don't have to replace all of them.

Ah ghad. Wish I'd thought about that. Might as well restart after the bajillion electro gel I used.

Might restart anyways. Starting to get to the point where I open one door and two minutes later I'm down three med kits. Be nice if enemies weren't dog-piled at every door waiting for it to open most of the time.

Use the drug that lets you see enemies, and a shotgun.  You can see when they are piled up at the door, open it and blast them.

Also, grenades are amazing.  They are expensive, but they are wonderful for dealing with large groups of enemies.  Use and abuse them.

Expensive is the right word. MKI grenades basically don't do shit anymore once you've hit Evo Level 3, and making mass amounts of higher mark grenades is pricey. I only started using grenades when I felt like I needed them and by that point the effectiveness of MKI was already diminished.

I dunno, we'll see what the:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

is all about. The game is sorely lacking in available splash damage it feels like. And I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I feel like the threshold between the early levels and late-stage gameplay is too thin. I went one minute from basically waltzing through levels killing at my leisure to having so many enemies requiring so many hits that I'm not able to clear a level in one go, due to power, weapon durability or health. It's not like, OMG WTF hard, but it's starting to feel like a chore.

Does anyone know what the actual meat of the Purification update is? I can't seem to find patch notes anywhere despite Subterrain patching daily for the last week.
