Atom Smasher?
« on: August 08, 2016, 07:05:19 pm »

I tried to atomsmash a dwarf zombie in a cage (could not pit him). The atomsmasher worked before this (on corpses), but although the lever was pulled multiple times, the cage survived. Why is this?

If you place something on top of a raising bridge it gets tossed rather than smashed. The exception to that is the "hinge" tile(s) which can smash on the way up as well. Thus, to smash something properly, it should be placed under a raised bridge and the bridge then be brought down on top of it.

I generally kill caged enemies by building the cage at the end of a tunnel and hook the cage up to a lever. On the tile beside the cage I build a pressure plate hooked to an array of 4 10 tile long raising drawbridges, and then a door at the entry to the tunnel (to keep dorfs out which the device is in operation, and keep victims in). An override lever for the raising bridges is needed as well, as the victim sometimes steps on the pressure plate but just stands there while the bridges are raised and lowered. It's quite common that victim gets tossed up and get harmed while the bridges rise, but they always get smashed on the way down (but don't try this on ogres: they're too big).
