I don't know what will help us become a warrior of the Templars, but butchering is really helpful.

Yeah with all of the work we'll have for us we should be able to gain some big muscle skills. Then we can become the Lu Bu of whoever this Lord is.

You and Michael decide to stay in the town for now. You manage to find a job helping build some things in the town. Its hard work in the sun, but the job pays very well. in total you got about 5 silver.

Michael manages to get a job as a butchers assistant which he's pretty happy with. In total he got about 4 silver and 6 bronze.

You spend your free time practicing with your sword at the local barracks. The guardsmen who sleep their don't really mind, specially now that the lord left them here to go off on the crusade.

Michael spends his time practicing archery. You both improve a bit. but if you had a proper teacher you would have improved a lot more.

After working in the morning and practicing in the evening, both you and Michael are resting in the local tavern. Listening to the music and talking to the other customers. The whole room is flooded with candle light and both you and Michael are feeling a bit dozy.

A slim man with a hood covering most of his face slips into the seat facing you both.

"I heard you guys are training at the barracks. I also heard you guys are pretty good." He says in a gravelly voice.

"what about it?" You ask suspiciously. While Michael leans backwards in his seat and crosses his arms, his eyes hard and unfriendly.

"You don't got to look so damn mean. I just got a proposition." The man says glancing at Michael. "See I'm part of a mercenary group and we looking for some new recruits. Especially since we planning to go join the Crusade." The man continues.

Michael raises his eyebrows at you. "Well, i misjudged you." Michael states, the hardness gone from his eyes. "We were planning to join the crusade, so if you're recruiting... Then yeh" Michael says a hint of a smile on his lips.

"Good, good. Meet here tomorrow at 5, we'll introduce you to the rest of the team. And are captain." He says to you both while rising from the table.

The next day you met the whole band. In total there are twelve of them. Most of them seem like decent people. You made quick friends with a couple of them.

The first being Joseph. He's a tall, lanky guy a bit shy and he's new like you and Michael. He arrived in the town after the Lord and his men had left and he didn't want to leave for the crusade by himself. He likes his short spear and shield.

The second being Torvid. Really strong guy who joined a year or so ago. A bit loud and makes some pretty obscene jokes but the nicest guy in the group by a long shot. He likes his mace and a really big shield.

There is one guy who you did not like. At. All. When you introduced yourself he just ignored you. All the others you talk to say he's probably one of the oldest members of the group, started out the whole thing but didn't want to take over from the last leader and his names Forwin. He's extremely battle scarred and wields a bastard sword and a small buckler.

Moving onto the captain, he's a quiet man called Jereph Weber. Grizzled looking but holds himself confidently. When he speaks the rest listen. He wields a short spear and shield as well. You noticed that he has knives in nearly every conceivable place that you can put a knife. When you asked him about it he simply said "Can never have enough knives".

You also learn the man who recruited you is called Ander. Everyone says he is a bit of a loner and tends not to get involved with everyone else.

The captain goes over your pay. Which is 5 Silver for every battle and a share of the loot. You will get fed as well.

Yeah, some chain mail and a shield would be nice. If we don't have enough for mail, let's just go with leather. A dagger could always come in handy too.
