DF blinking irritatingly, what to do?
« on: May 03, 2015, 01:27:03 pm »

Hi, I'm playing DF 40_24 Starter Pack r10 on Win8.1, HP ProBook4340s. Everything runs as intended, but every few seconds in irregular intervals, the whole game goes black for a split second and then back to normal. This is incredibly annoying after a while and makes the game basically unplayable.  I tried fiddling around with the graphics settings; fullscreen, advanced, graphic packs, etc., but no dice. The blinking is still there. Any idea how to put a stop to it?

in the init.txt, is the print mode set to Partial?

I tried that out and had the same problem. Switched to VBO.

Turning off truetype font fix did it for me. I think it simulates resizing the screen (i think thats the standard fix) every time truefont poops, which it does often. We just tend not to notice immediately.

It actually refreshes the entire screen periodically - I think the default is every 5 ticks or so. It's configurable, but I'm not sure why the screen would only flicker every few seconds unless whatever pack you're using configures the script to run every few hundred ticks, which wouldn't be very useful in addressing the Truetype issue.

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.
