Rubble 6.10 Standalone Tileset Package
« on: April 11, 2015, 12:10:10 pm »

Overview:

This package is intended for use with succession forts and other shared fortresses where it is
desirable to be able to switch tilesets quickly and easily without needing the user to install
third-party tools. As this package is installed directly to the raw directory it will automatically
be available everywhere the save is, so this only needs to be installed once.

This is a flexible (and safe) alternative to the common practice of raw switching to change tilesets,
and works even with (most) modded raws.

Rubble can install tilesets onto modded raws without problems, but if your raws are *too* modded (say
a total conversion) the result (while not invalid) may not be useful. That said this should work with
many mods, and the full version of Rubble comes with tools that may be used to automatically generate
new tileset addons if you need them.

This is a special Rubble interface designed specifically to be simple and easy to use, to that end it
sacrifices flexibility for simplicity. If you want to make the most of Rubble's capabilities you will
need the full version.

If you already have the full version of Rubble you do not need this package, as the full version
includes this interface plus the much nicer web UI (which supports tileset switching along with many
other things).

Install:

Installation is very easy, simply unpack into your raw directory and every region you generate from
then on will support tileset switching.

Adding tileset switching to an existing region is as simple as unpacking into the region's raw
directory directly.

Running the Tileset Switcher Interface:

The tile set switcher interface will only work in an existing region, you cannot run it directly
from the main raw directory (only a region raw directory).

If you go to your region's raw directory and run `rubble_tset` (just double click it) it will pop up
a console window and print a bunch of stuff about what it loaded, then it will print a list of all the
available tileset addons. Type the number for that tileset addon and press enter to apply that addon
to the current region.

If you suspect something went wrong (and the text scrolled by too fast to read) the file "rubble.log"
will have a copy of the program output. If Rubble encounters an error nothing will be modified, so
you do not have to worry about your raws being corrupted (but a backup would be a good idea anyway).

Tilesets may only be applied to regions that are in a valid Dwarf Fortress install (the `data/init.txt`
and `data/d_init.txt` files are needed).

Included Addons:

This package includes the same tileset addons that come with the full version of Rubble. The addons
are in the "tilesets" directory.

The next few addons change the raw and d_init.txt tile mappings, but do not change the font settings.

* `User/Tilesets/ASCII`: ASCII raw mappings.
* `User/Tilesets/Mayday`: Mayday raw mappings.
* `User/Tilesets/Obsidian`: Obsidian raw mappings.
* `User/Tilesets/Phoebus`: Phoebus raw mappings.
* `User/Tilesets/Spacefox`: Spacefox raw mappings.

These addons change the raw and d_init.txt tile mappings, change the font settings, and they install
tilesheets and other files (TWBT overrides for example) as needed.

* `User/Tilesets/MLC/Normal`: The standard (ASCII with a few graphical tiles) version of the MLC tileset.
* `User/Tilesets/MLC/Pure ASCII`: The pure ASCII version of the MLC tileset.
* `User/Tilesets/MLC/DFHack/TWBT`: The Text Will Be Text version of the MLC tileset.

If you want more details, each addon has an "addon.meta" file that has more documentation.

See the Rubble thread for more about Rubble and the Rubble engine.
