My band recently released our first EP, found here: https://pangalacticmusic.bandcamp.com/album/pangalactic-ep

I'm not really sure what to call the music. Maybe post-rock or space-rock fits best, but I'm not sure.

We've been working on it for over a year, so let us know what you think!

Listened to the first track, pretty nice. Kinda reminds me of Ozric Tentacles if the keyboards were lost in a freak mixing accident.

I read it as "Feedback on my bard's new instrumental rock EP" and thought someone was doing some serious in character stuff.

Other than that, I cannot comment since it's too late at night to listen to anything.

As someone with very little musical taste and even less knowledge of music terminology, I'm digging the first track so far. It's a nice break from what I've been listening to lately (read: more Diablo Swing Orchestra than I can bother to count + some weird mix of video game stuff ).

I'm a big fan of instrumental music, so that might be a reason why I love it, too.

EDIT: I don't know how much it matters for you, but my mom is a big fan of it as well. :v

I really liked it. The only part that seemed off to me was the beginning of the third track, but maybe you were going for a little silliness. Otherwise, I appreciated the atmospheric quality, and the instrumentation and production were (as far as my non-musician ears could tell) both well done.

The EP sounds good...  I agree that post-rock is a good tag to stick on it, and on the general similarity to Ozric Tentacles.  It could also be compared to some of Joe Satriani's mellower tracks.

We need to talk about that album cover, however.

It took staring at the jumble of concentric sorta-squares for two full minutes before I could see what was going on.  If this EP wasn't fellow dorf output, the cover alone would've made me keep moving and not listen.  The "average listener" (whatever that really means) might give you three seconds to hook them.  Maybe.

The stars/nebula splash background behind the boring white rectangle wot plays the music?  That's what the cover should be, maybe with a wire-frame silhouette of a dude rocking out on a guitar superimposed.  With a name like Pangalactic, anything that suggests or invokes space is your friend.

Instead we created a thin "stencil" of the white part that was ironed on to a black background.

I thoroughly enjoyed what I listen to, including the third track. The intro is a tad weird, but it makes sense when you consider the song title. Might be my favorite of the three, honestly.

I can appreciate the DIY / keeping costs down angle.

The readability really needs to be effortless; anything less is effectively hurting you, and you can't afford that starting out.  Do consider updating the cover, even if it's not to the full color fanciness of my original suggestion.  It might also be worth doing a fancy version to attach to digital versions, and to get a few print quotes on that (but not actually print), just so you know have a ballpark price in mind for the future.
