How to advance world after retirement?
« on: May 17, 2015, 07:52:54 pm »

I retired a fort, and then reclaimed it, and absolutely nothing had changed.

How do I let years pass between retirement and reclaim? Do I have to become an adventurer?

Or run a different fort.

Toady really should add a "mode" that lets you just advance the world.

Yeah, I'd like to build a bunch of forts with artifacts buried down deep, then let the world and it's wars, megabeast attacks and kobold thieves run for a thousand years before going in to try and recover everything either with adventurers or reclaim squads if necessary.

Second this.

BTW, should it be easy to add a dfhack feature?
Before the embark screen, there's a calendar screen that skips several days. Maybe there's a variable that stores how many days the game should skip.

The calender update is really slow though. Seems like it would take hours just to skip a couple of months, let alone a year or two.

It depends. Sometimes it is really fast and you barely have time to glance at the numbers.

I've seen it take anywhere from a few seconds up to a couple of minutes to go through the 2 weeks it does before the game starts. So I figure best case scenario is about 5 minutes per year of simulation, worst case is around an hour per year.
