Most expensive stack of food
« on: May 20, 2015, 11:33:46 am »

While trading with the elves I discovered a very valuable stack of prepared food, made in Gladehames by the legendary cook Nomal Tostletmos. A ☼quarry bush leaf roast [217]☼ worth ¤1,080,660

It is all pretty much masterfully prepared, The full description is here:

This stack was accompanied by his little sibling, *quarry bush leaf roast [180]* worth merely ¤263,160. I offered this one as a gift to the elven traders. They said "Oh, nice. You are too kind."

I don't know what to do with my expensive food. I have been buying whole caravans for like five barrels of food. My cook is getting better and better and my food stockpiles are filling up. Maybe after I offer my ¤1M roast to the mountainhomes the king will come to dine in my halls.  :P

I'm ok with trading food at the beginning, because I imagine the early traders are more like supply missions from the Mountainhome that need food for the return journey, plus traders gotta eat and they like it fresh, so legendary meals and a month's protection for a prosperous caravan is probably worth a few anvils. But yeah buying out a late-game caravan with five barrels of food is definitely a bug xD

Not only makes it trading a joke, it also blows up your generated wealth extremely fast, like no other industry. I suspect that it attracts powerful invaders much earlier that you'd get them with a more modest trading strategy (stonecrafts, clothes, ...). I don't think I'll be able to survive the next siege.

I wish Toady would do some balancing. I like to feed my dwarves prepared meals, but don't want to get invaded because 70% of my fort's value is in my food barrels.

You'll be lucky to get invaded at all :/ watch out around the 10-year-mark, I find that's when stuff starts showing up. Like, full-blown sieges of 70 goblins or undead with no prior ambushes or anything.

I'm training up my cook. Thus far 10 gobbos showed up Year 4 and were immediately slaughtered by my stuck pet Trader caravan at the depot. I could use a good invasion. We need more goblinite.

I think food prices need a big nerf, 50% at least, even then it'd be pretty easy. I'd go with 70/80%.

But yeah, even giving out a LOT of profit i'm getting no invasions when I should be.
