"Seed" to re-gen world?
« on: May 12, 2015, 06:01:11 pm »

So, I was away, now I'm back, so I "used to " know the game, but... not any recent version. So...

I found a good site (w/ shallow magma!), and then somehow that fort-file won't load (hangs up), but I can load the world file. BUT I can't "re-embark" on the same location. (And I cleverly failed to save a copy of the world - derp.)

Is there a way to re-gen the world from scratch? (I remember there used to be a "seed" number that would do it, but I can't find the way to recover that.) Or am I just SOL?

Any help (or commiseration) appreciated - TIA!

Unless you saved a copy of the worldgen seeds (whether from Legends mode or from "Export Map Image" in Fortress mode), no.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

There's somewhere you can export a worldgen file, I think it's either when you export local image of a current fort or in legends mode.

Well, not good news for me, but if I remember anything about DF, it's "live and learn" - thanks!

You can load the world file, but can't embark?

Look at it in legends, and export the world information from there, it will have the seed.
