Minecarts and Marksdwarves
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:25:41 am »

So I'm new to this whole minecart thing, but I read somewhere that marksdwarves riding a minecart will fire at enemies accurately.  Has anyone tested this?

I've got the image of a minecart track running along the top of my entrance with fortifications in front and a stream of marksdwarves riding along the edge at high speed, performing awesome drive-bys on goblins.

Works, but requires some micromanagement. Basically, you need to do the following:

1. Setup a marksdwarf squad, and properly equip them with bolts (easier said than done).
2. Deactivate their squad, confirm they have their stuf.
3. Set a ride route, get your markdwarf to take it
4. Flip the squad to on. I've heard they may reload with bolts in the cart but I'm not sure if its true.

Fucking hell man, you aren't just getting the short end of the stick, you're being beaten with it.

Is your plan really to flush water into hell, and have the CARP marines fight them without threat of flame or disease?  If so, you are awesome, and one of the greatest DF military visionaries I've seen yet ( not that I've seen that many, or any, for that matter )

Shouldn't be necessary to turn the squad back on; when I equip my civvies with crossbows by putting them in off duty squads, they shoot automatically at enemies desoite being off duty.
