So what's all this garbage? This, my friend, is a project a long time in the making. See, Shadowrun is a rather complex game. Asking new players to make characters is a bit like asking a complete idiot to perform rocket science. Nothing works, nothing is on time, everything is on fire, etc.
No, what the bollocks is a "Shadowrun"It's a roleplaying game, set in 2072. Long story short, magic returned in 2012, things went to shit, cyberpunk dystopian future. Got it?
You play as "Shadowrunners", criminals hired for deniable operations by any number of players in the Sixth World, usually Megacorperations, but almost anyone could contract a shadowrunner to achieve something illegal, immoral, or both. Complete your missions, get paid, live the high life, all while staying one step ahead of the myraid threats looking to make your shadowrunning career a short one.
To do something, you roll a number of d6s equal to your character's attribute, plus their skill and any modifiers. Every 5 or 6 is a "hit". The more of these you get, the better.
You will need a copy of the shadowrun 4th edition core rulebook to play, preferably the 20th anniversary edition.
Now, you know how I mentioned that this was a new player friendly game? Rather than have players create characters, I have made a list of premade characters. If you select one, i'll send you their stats and gear, and allow you to fill out the things left undefined, like name, sex, knowledge skill, and other things left up to player discretion. The game will be played over IRC, and the channel and server will be PM'd to the players.
Human Street Samurai
A lone and almost tragic figure, the street samurai is a highly augmented warrior, dominating combat, especially melee combat with their extreme strength and reflexes, while also being useful in most other areas. Your sword cane and holdout pistol are more than capable of striking down people in open combat while being highly concealable. Meanwhile, your nanoaugmentations can be reprogramed for a variety of effects
Human Infiltration Specialist
Built for a combination of Cybercrime and physical sneakiness, this character's commlink is exactly as dangerous as an extending shock baton to the skull. While you cannot properly engage in "Cybercombat", as you use your commink in AR (With your gun in your other hand, most of the time) you can easily bypass most systems, and pry out the precious paydata within. You can even make cyberattacks on enemies, as a quick spoof command can make enemy smartlinked weapons malfunction, disable enemy drones, or manipulate other systems
Human Generalist Mage
A magic user generally skilled in most forms of magic. While an expert at none, they can use a variety of spells, summon spirits, counter enemy magic, and enchant items competently. Good for indecisive players, and provides key magical countermeasures to the modern shadowrunning team.
Dwarf Heavy Weapons Specialist
Armed with explosives and an encylopediac knowledge of firearms, the Dwarf heavy Weapons specialist can bring needed firepower to a shadowrunner squad. His assault rifle has an attached grenade launcher, a hidden grenade pistol in his coat, and skill with explosives allows him to bring both discrete, and much less subtle destruction to bear. His knowlege of chemistry allows him to make his own weapons fillings, which can be used to incapacitate, or kill, crowds of enemies.
Dwarf Combat Mage
Powerful, direct combat spells are your forte. Blasts of mana can render an enemy insensate or dead, and even the thickest armour can do nothing to protect someone. While most mages shun technology and implants, as it weakens their magic, you have never bought into the weaknesses of your profession, and have even grown stronger with a few, careful augmentations.
Dwarf Drone Puppet
More machine than man, the Dwarf Drone Puppet is insanely skilled in the Matrix, and equally as skilled "Jumped into" his drones via VR piloting. You also have a really sweet truck. hack into enemy networks, shoot them with your drones, or obliterate the minds of enemies with Black IC programs.
Elven Technomancer
Rather than use machines, a technomancer is a living, biological computer in their own right, able to interface with the matrix intuitively. Rather than hack systems yourself, you compile helpful subroutines from the Resonance called Sprites, and get them to do your favours. A machine sprite can greatly improve your aim, a Data sprite can comb all of the matrix for data, and a Paladin sprite can defend your entire team from matrix attack. While you lost the ability to use firearms due to brain damage from the Crash of 64, you've found the cleansing blasts of a laser pistol and adequate replacement
Elven Cyber Freak
You never asked for this. Nearly obliterated in a traumatic accident, full body cybernetic replacements were required to save your life. You are sneaky, lethal, and always armed with a variety of implanted weapons. You are insanely fast, and can well charge 30 meters and stab someone before they can shoot you. Sometimes, you wonder what that makes you, when even nightmares fear your name.
Elven Adept
A master of traditional elven martial arts, you channel mana through your body to achieve astounding effects. Crushing fists, walking on water, and dodging bullets are well within your ability, as are more esoteric forms of art. Specialised in melee combat, your greatest weapon is the one your enemies never see
Ork Coinshot
While also an adept like the elf, your talents took a more...prosaic form. Your aim, strength, and speed with thrown objects is astounding- in your hands, a simple roll of dimes is like a magazine of sniper rifle ammunition. Pens, coins, mugs, all of these and more fly faster than a gauss rifle shell from your capable hands. Your bioware implants may seem like a "Shortcut" to others, but they're dead now.
Ork Technomancer Destroyer
Unlike most technomancers, your style of combat is hand to hand, mano e mano brawling. You have mastered the ability to turn your entire body in a hot-sim electrode net, and a single touch can drag an enemy unwillingly into the Matrix, where you may obliterate them with Black IC complex forms. As you might expect, raw neurons are helpless before such an undiluted blast of neural input, allowing you to fry someone's brain in an instant.
Ork Blind Gunman
Blinded by a street punk's hidden hand razors, your have implants to compensate for your lack of sight with incredible hearing. You blind fire enemies with your massive handgun, rendered almost immediately unconscious by the capsule round and the narcoject payload it contains. While you are intensely pacifistic, such an attack won't kill your enemies- give them a chance to think about what they've done. You're also skilled in investigation
Troll Touch Mage
You are a master of touch based spells, which are easier to cast than regular ones. This, coupled with a brawny fist, allows you to fell opponents at an absurd rate. If your fist won't penetrate their battle armour, maybe your death touch will. NArrowly focused spellcasting means they have no ability to summon spirits, but they can heal their team and crush enemies with potent mana effects
Troll Weapons Master
A pure and simple master of firearms. Guns of all sorts are your speciality, and the song of hot lead is nothing new to you. You are skilled in many technical areas, so you're no slouch in the mechanics department either. Think all trolls are dumb? Think again.
Troll Archer
While bows are rarely used in the modern age, the incredible strength of a troll can put them to good use. Silent, non metallic, and with more force than a tank round, your arrows inflict absurd damage on your enemies Low rate of fire should always be kept in mind to minimize hazards.
