Randomized Pathfinder World (Comments much appreciated)
« on: May 15, 2015, 09:05:29 am »

So I have been trying in vain to come up with my own Pathfinder universe and after struggling with concepts like...

The world is a connection of interconnecting landforms, dungeons, and extradimensional spaces that make up the individual and mass consciousnesses and subconsciousness of both the mortal, supernatural, and immortal realms...

I just decided... What the heck! Lets just create a Randomized Pathfinder World All together!

For this I am using the beloved book "World Builder's Guidebook" and I am going to use whatever it gives me.

For some of these I am going to edit sections "If" they no longer apply. Since this was made back during Advanced Dungeons and dragons. If I edit a section I am going to display my edits. Unfortunately I do not want to post usurps from the book because I am not sure if I am allowed to do it legally (even though this book is ANCIENT and doesn't apply anymore)

If you want to follow along and roll as well go ahead!

So lets start

---

Section 1: World Hooks

In this section you are trying to find ways that your world is specifically unique, it uses 1d100s and usually I am supposed to chose 1 and reroll if I don't like the gimmick

For this I am going to use the optional rule and use two to three rolls (In this case 3 of them).

The type of hooks are as follows
-Climate/Landform: Is this a desert planet or perhaps an island floating in the void
-Sites of Interest: Are there landmarks that seemingly shift the entire focus of the world.
-Culture: What is the typical culture of this setting? Is it a pulpfiction African world? Or perhaps a modern one
-Situation: What is going on in this world that is so important? War? Villain?
-Historical: What has happened historically that is so important? This is similar to Situation but is more prevalent and less controlled.

36 = Cultures! which requires a d12 roll and I got a 2: Ancient.
-Ancient are cultures like Egypt or Rome... but before we use it I might want to see what our other rolls are

78 = Situation! Which requires a d16 roll (yes it gives instructions on how to do that) and I got a 7: Exploration
-The vast majority of the world is entirely unknown... Ok... Interesting I guess... but I am going to Veto this if ONLY because I kind of have to post everything here defeating most of the point.
REROLL!: 1: Class Dominance
-Apparently a certain class rules society. From the description it suggests character class.

7 = Climate/Landform! Which requires a d16 and I got a 7: Jungle
-The vast majority of the world is covered in Jungle

Alright the world is shaping up nicely. Honestly I would picture something Aztec, though significantly more advanced, where clerics have the controlling interest in society (a religion controlled society so to speak).

--------

Section 2: Worlds and Planetology

Now this is USUALLY where I just outright ignore the rolls but given I am making this thread I am just going to use whatever they give me.

First, What is the shake of the world? Is it a sphere? Is it flat? Is it a square?

Roll = 16: Sphere

Well that was normal.

Planet Size!

Roll = 69: 8000miles! or rather we have a Earth Sized planet.

This has a bit more significance later on when we actually make maps (something I am terrible at... so if I abandon this thread... you will know why!)

Hydrology (how much of our world is covered in water)

Roll = 20: 40% (less than earth)
-This roll actually affects something significant. It means we will have no real oceans and all trade is basically by land.

Number of Seas (I just understood this section)

Of the 9 regions of water we have we have
Roll 1d6 = 3... We have exactly 3 seas in this world.

Sizes and Center (these are rolls)
Sea 1: Size 3: Centered in Region 8
Sea 2: Size 5: Centered in Region 7
Sea 3: Size 1: Centered in Region 19

Ultimately this is a rather earth like world dominated by land travel.

----

Those are all the rolls I can get to before I have to actually start crafting the world and showing my lack of art skills. The next section requires turning the world into a 20 section world. We know where the Seas go and what regions of water we need to place.

The major difficulty of this next session is three fold
1) I cannot do this on Pen and Paper, because I'd need to scan it... and if I did scan it I'd have to redraw it digitally
2) I need to do it on Hex grid
3) I need to create 20 regions in triangle form... the regions being on a 50 x 30 hexes.
All in Gimp... the program that doesn't have a line tool (because it was made for masochists)

Please leave comments though, I need the motivation.

Alright got the water!

Now time for Plate Tectonics!

4d4 Plates, each spanning 1d6 regions

12 Plates

Plate 1: Size 2
Plate 2: Size 1
Plate 3: Size 5
Plate 4: Size 2
Plate 5: Size 3
Plate 6: Size 3
Size 7-12: Size 1

Eliminating 12th plate.

Now a TON of rolls for Plate movement

And there we go. 1 Grey line is low mountains, 2 for medium, 3 for high.

I roll for Meteor impacts and got... 0

Now for Weather and ranges I got "Normal"... I am going to change Weather to hot anyway...

The next step... is that I'll need to take all 20 regions... and turn them into 20 maps.

Once again Please leave a comment, I won't last very long on my own Inspiration.

Edit addition: Note, Each Hex is about 150 Miles

The very first sector... I admit I left out a key so you could understand it...

Each hex is about 35miles

---

Well no comments... I'll lock this now

Edit: Well a PM convinced me to give this one more try. This is a lot of work though... Hmmm

Stealth ninja edit:
Having read the Guidebook for the first time, i am now saving a copy to my hard drive, as random generation is my fetish a thing that i am very interested in.

Siggy Siggy Hole!

Well, let's say you're going away from Earth on huge spaceship and suddenly shit goes wrong and you have Super Mutants. Social Experiments prepared them for this.

It is honestly one of my favorite books ever written for dungeons and dragons.

If they made one for pathfinder or 5th edition I would buy it on the spot!

I seriously recommend it to anyone who is into dungeons and dragons.

This seems pretty cool!  Maybe since the world is dependent on land-based trade and transportation, perhaps the advent of some magic/plot-device powered train system or something would have been made?  Just an idea once you get down to the nitty-gritty stuff.

PTW bruh.
