Meeting friend of a friend for the first time
« on: April 04, 2015, 12:28:56 pm »

My friend recently introduced me to a girl on snapchat and facebook. We have talked quite a lot, with her often starting the conversations. She just asked me if I wanted to meet her this week, so I said yes (while I am not a complete recluse, I am not particually popular either). I said I am bringing a friend along but she says she doesnt have any (It doesnt seem that way from looking at facebook or snapchat as she has more than me). I am a little suspicious but since she has a ton of photos I don't think she is random creep or anything (I am 17 and she is supposedly 16).

I have no idea what to do here, I am perfectly fine talking and all of that but I am not sure exactly how to approach this.

Dude, she wants to meet you alone. Like a date. Do it. You will regret not doing it if you don't. Do let your friend know where you're going (basic stranger danger safety, that), but don't bring other people along unless you want to make it a definite "lets be friends" thing.

Well I talked to her a little more and then the baggage came out on full force. I won't specify what exactly but lets just say it made me want to get the hell out of there.

I am half relieved that you've done yourself this duty, but also half suspicious that this "baggage" is just normal people stuff.

It's pretty hard to make it into adulthood without picking up at least a few suitcases worth of baggage along the way.

This was megabaggage. Seriously, I think If I got seriously involved I wouldn't be able to get her to leave me be. It seems callous what I did but I think I did the right thing.

This is coming from a guy with a few skeletons in the closet (mind you somewhat normal stuff).

It is very disappointing when you met someone new and hope to get a pleasant time and they drop a baggage train at you, isn't it? 'twas happen to me. A lot.

Well if you somehow felt she was going to be a pain in the ass, then you probably did the right thing, but you always need be critical of yourself in these situations. Is this "baggage" something you're using as an excuse to not get into a relationship. I mean, I remember when I used to be shy, and when I got into relationships I would always get these massive second thoughts about "what will happen to my life from now on? Will I have as much free time? Will I be able to still do the things I like? What if she keeps calling me or wants to do things togheder all the time? Do I want to maintain this relationship? What if etc"

But hey, if its just friendship, how bad can it be :v I mean I have very shady friends and that doesnt affect my life much at all.

Later I found out I was just being selfish most of the time. Sometimes you need to take risks, unless you are absolutely sure that the person you might get to know is way more likely to bring you more bad things then good things.

But yes, please remember to properly use the proper baggage storage and not drop them on people, even if its just your pillow collection.
