Dont atom smash them....

...send them through serrated disc traps. :P

This is actually a rational suggestion. How would you make dwarf bolts otherwise?

Hmmmm to prevent this in the future, would you just turn all of your dorfs but ~20 or so (to simulate critical food-producing industries+lazy nobles) into soldiers? Would you even need to arm+train them, or would they simply count as "150+ soldiers" to be checked against the sieges "100 soldiers?"

I can only guess. Maybe the RNG was less friendly at that time.

Sigh, I eventually atom-smashed them to save fps.
But maybe I made a mistake because if they all turned ghosts...

A Dwarf needs indeed either a coffin or a slab, that even applies to outside dwarfes like caravan guards,
if they died on your map they need at min a slab or they indeed become ghostly.

Let them turn into ghosts and haunt the area for all eternity, in punition for their treason.

As a Urist McFrenchy, please forgive my english

Heck, only the elves would tame a leech. [...] Just for this, I'm starting up lead goblet production. Anyone who tries to sell me a tame leech deserves to die from lead poisoning.

If I'm to retire a fortress that may get captured, I would build a self destruct lever, and a small sealed building with levers, and extra embark tools / armor / weapons, just in case I need to reclaim, I can deconstruct and pull the levers.  Or just general flooding that drains everything in one area for each re-claim.
