System Test: Do you like hurting other people?
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:17:14 pm »

This thread is to test an idea for a system that borrows an idea from Hotline Miami and uses it as a base for the rest of the system.

The main stats for this system is Accuracy, which lets you beat in the heads of others, and Reactions, which let you beat in the heads of others before they can do so to you. These start at six, which means you roll a d6 for them. Every time you gain a point you upgrade the die by one. (So, d2, d4, d6, d10, d20) after you gain a d20 you gain a d2. So on and so forth until you die or finish the level.

PTW this.
I'd offer advice but (a) I'm terrible at developing systems myself and (b)I don't have a terribly good idea of how this is supposed to work. Is it 'higher number rolled = better result' or is it against a DC of some sort, for example?

The higher the result the better. For instance, you're more likely to beat someone with a six than with a two.

Generally, I find that having 4 main stats (Speed for dodging vs. dexterity for accuracy, and strength for damage vs. toughness for resisting damage) works well.

I like the way the dice works, but going straight from d10 to d20 seems like a rather large jump. If you're using an online roller, it might be a good idea to just increase the number of sides by 2 for each level, without worrying about matching real life dice.

That's why I was thinking of adding a swing speed and walking speed stat. Things that affect health/damage wouldn't make sense as everyone already dies in one hit anyways.

As for the dice that's mostly for people who want to use actual dice for rolling.

To nick from dnd
Quote from: 1d6 damage progression

Something like that may be better.

Have NAV's four stats and a D6 roll, compare stats + rolls highist wins.
Weapons and stuff can add to the rolls up to six.

It's simple, quick and by haveing low stat points some randomness is kept.

If it's based on Hotline Miami it's all instant kills anyway.

Indeed, I did say that when NAV suggested health and stuff.

Have NAV's four stats and a D6 roll, compare stats + rolls highist wins.

It's simple, quick and by haveing low stat points some randomness is kept.
But then it would be possible to tie which would be a pain in the ass.

Then make it attacker has to roll higher than defender.

In the event of a tie, roll again!

Kind of obvious.

Then don't complain about ties.
