For some reason, and I'm not sure exactly why, DF runs amazingly faster on my system when I moved it onto my SSD.  I didn't think it was paging the drive at all except on load but apparently it is indeed hitting the drive tons of times but for tiny bits of data, my guess is reading info from raws and such.

My system is an i7-3820 with 16G of DDR3 and an nvidia 680.  240GB SSD for OS and games I'm currently playing, another 120GB SSD for games, then a 2TB western digitial black SATA.

Oh, on windows 7 if that matters to anyone.

The raws are loaded into memory when a world is loaded and read from there as it is played, if my knowledge of the inner workings of DFHack are correct.

Yeah I'm not sure why it is, just that it is.  I have more then enough memory to load all of DF in every aspect into memory and never need to touch the drive yet it obviously is for some reason. It does seem to do it specifically when new things are coming on screen as well.  Like new set of animals are spawned or a caravan arrives, siege happens, etc.

This is why I was thinking it was loading the raws, or something to that effect.  But its just the best guess I can come up with.

There's also the data in the region save folder? Should be a lot more data there than in raw
