theres no stockpile link for the brewery. i did add one previously but it made no difference.

also the extract one is only on the list because they wernt brewing anything with just brew from plant. its litterally only there incase they wanted to make some with it when they refused with the rest. :(

Yeah it's so large because there are 13 save backups as well as the current save. :P

Just got it finished

I loaded up your save, and as soon as I cancel the extract job, the brewer shows up and starts brewing. If I assign a dwarf the plant gathering labor, the extract job cancels because there aren't materials, and then the brewer starts brewing. It may be that I'm just not hitting the same bug as you for whatever reason, but as long as that extract job is there, it absolutely will  prevent any brewing jobs which are further down the list, because you don't have a dwarf with the appropriate labor to pick up that job and realize it can't be done, so it never advances to the rest of the list.

I don't see that you ever confirmed which DF version you're using... your save loaded fine in .40.24, but that only shows that you're not using something older than a fairly early .40.xx version. If you're not using the most current version, it may be that you're hitting a bug that would be fixed by upgrading.

i thought i mentioned i am using 40.24.

but anyway it seems to work now after cancelling the extract job maybe i had that job assigned before without realizing it then and got confused (i find that easy with DF).... it does work thankfully. unless saving and reloading had anything to do with it.?

well i fell like a bit of an idiot now   ::) thanks for the help guys glad its resolved :D

also forsaken your picture gif is just cruel i lost 10 minutes of my life mesmerized by it XD

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Extracts

The wiki seems to have an answer:

Quote
Gnomeblight can be created from Kobold bulbs at a still via "Extract plant essence", requiring a vial and a dwarf with the Plant gathering labor enabled

[edit]
Indeed, it seems that it needs a dwarf with the appropriate labor to cancel a job.
Just tried it with your savegame. It cancels the job due to lack of materials (as it should) as soon as there's a herbalist

as soon as there's a herbalist
And you should really have one or two around, Sisyphean. They are not bad in old versions but with any embark with just some bushes and up in thickness of vegetation they do shine in last versions. With multihauling they can take lots of herbs at once and get you lots of food. And then there are stepladders and fruit trees with brewable fruits...
Some players now are doing forts with herbalists as only food-makers, no farming at all.

Yeah, since the introduction of stepladders, if you embark in an area with fruit trees and more than sparse vegitation, a single herbalist can potentially produce enough plants to provide 100% of your food/booze needs for a very long time, and if you get a fiber producing plant on your embark, you can even supply your textile industry with them.

yea i know they are pretty good i used them on my first embark but im trying to learn the farming fishing and animal husbandry aspect atm. also with the amount of food i already have i doubt i will go hungry any time soon especially as i am producing tons of wealth from stone crafts and buying most of the food traders come with.
