stockpile links with Trade Depot
« on: February 14, 2015, 07:49:40 pm »

Give and take piles with the Trade Depot. You could have the Depot preloaded with everything you want to go out, so dwarves don't have to interrupt their usual jobs for a last-minute hustle. The take links could remain active while no traders are present, and could be activated as soon as you dismiss your trader after trading.

My strategy lately has been to put Finished Goods stockpiles directly on or next to the Trade Depot (i.e. 11x11 stockpile with the depot in the middle) and set it to AutoTrade.

To note, AutoTrade is a (very useful!) dfhack feature. Just saying as I find it easy sometimes to forget that a feature comes from dfhack, and some people prefer not to use it -- and in any case, it's fair to request that the feature be adopted into the mainline game.

I recently posted a very similar suggestion in another thread.

Being able to link stockpiles and trade depots like you can stockpiles and workshops would be nice. Anything in linked stockpiles should not need hauling when the traders arrive. Have it limited so that the stockpile needs to be nearby rather than on the other side of the map. The traders would need to intelligently collect any goods you trade with them when they pack up.

Can't help but wonder if the trade depot will get replaced entirely. It's an odd abstraction considering how many items, creatures, and caravans get packed in there. They are kind of dull as is and are ripe for interesting expansion.
