Ranged units should try to keep their distance
« on: February 20, 2015, 03:08:41 pm »

Dwarves seem to have an overwhelming desire to engage in melee combat, even when it amounts to suicide.  Dwarf crossbowers that get too close to shoot should try to retreat to shooting range rather than start clubbing.

Latest variation of suicidal strategy had ranged dwarves jumping off a building to engage in melee with attacking goblins.

Which brings me to another point, if I say STATION HERE, it means I want my dwarves to wait HERE not go charging over THERE where the deathy things are.

EDIT:  There must be some way to check if a Dwarf has reached the station point, since they stop moving.  They should at least wait until the entire squad has reached the station point before charging to their deaths so that they can all charge together.
