Melt item job cancellation
« on: January 15, 2015, 08:05:03 am »

I've ran into a strange little issue with magma forges:
I have ~50 melt-designated items lying around in a stockpile next to 2 magma smelters.
The smelters have melt item on repeat, but every now and then they suspend the job with the no melt designated item available message.

Using starter pack 40_23 with only minor config/hotkey changes. The stockpile is set to accept all metal armor/furniture except masterwork/artifact + coins,
uses bins, has no links, and is set to accept from everywhere.
Workflow plugin is enabled, if I press 's' immediately after the cancellation to resume the suspended job they get to work just fine.

Does anybody have a clue what could be the problem?
Want to dick around with platinum shotguns so I'd like to mass melt coins, but it's quite frustrating this way.

I Don't know if this is a general problem or specific to dfhack, feel free to move the thread in case I've got the wrong place.

I don't know what's causing your cancellations, but since you're using dfhack, you can simply enable the auto-melt option in the workflow plugin: "workflow enable auto-melt". I've used this with a coin stockpile set to auto-melt items via dfhack, and a workflow order for coins, to create a somewhat simple, automated metal bar multiplier.

Are your melt designated items in their own stockpile, or the same stockpile finished items go to? Are you using bins? If you are using bins, and the meltables are in the same stockpile as the finished goods, I have a good guess as to what is happening. Someone is taking the bin with all the meltables in it and going to grab a finished good.

Yep, that was it. Didn't check how the hauling works in .23, containers apparently still do not play nice with stockpiles. Created a minecart qsp and all is well.

Didn't notice that one, makes my life much easier indeed.

Thanks for the help.

I had this problem and it was caused by me giving the stone/metal area all stockpiles linked to workshops. The easiest way is probably just to have an unlinked smelter just for melting.
