lazy carpenters are lazy

hello everyone,

could someone please tell me what i have done to make my two carpenters hate me? there are four orders (build three wooden walls and a floor) waiting for them on the outside of my fort, and nothing else for them to do (aside from some hauling from time to time) - and yet, they just don't get to work - it has been a year in-game now! they don't seem to be opposed to get outside on principle. i alredy tried cancelling all the orders and giving them anew - to no avail. when i tell the carpenter's workshop to make something, they make it, and then - back to "no job". for comparison, i turned all of the other labors off for one of them while leaving them on for the other one - still: "no job" / "partying"... everyone else behaves.

some ideas would be appreciated! thanx in advance

Which version of DF? In 0.40.20 or newer, there's a 'construct walls/floors' labor that controls these jobs instead of carpentry or masonry.

Are the jobs suspended?

press q and put the pointer over them, it should tell you. Also tells you how to fix it, if necessary.

Also check if they can path to construction. If they are assigned to any burrows check if both material and construction site is located inside it. Or they can be wounded - hard to get to building without legs. Or someone else took those jobs and got stuck for whatever reason somewhere. Tons of possibilities.

thanks! the problem solved itself by way of alligators - i abandoned the fortress.
