hey so i was wondering, what if you were to make a canyon that leads to the entrance of our fortress?  and then carve fortifications on the upper floors of the sides of the canyons so your dwarves could shoot arrows at incoming invaders?  would that work? if the enemy archers are on the ground and your dwarves are one or two floors up then theoretically they could still shoot at them right? and the enemy archers wouldn't be able to shoot back because they have to be adjacent to the fortification in order to shoot through so that would most likely equal victory! yes?

Dwarves can definately shoot across one z-level, I dunno about two (they can probably manage two). So yeah, it should work.

Shooting between z levels makes accuracy even worse then loosing both eyes(120 degrees off). Also, it's possible to shoot through fortifications at any range. Being close just reduces the penalty.

Yeah, dwarves are pretty inaccurate when shooting upwards, but even with copper xbows and wooden bolts, my two shooters downed several batmen as high as 5 levels above the camp.

Its nice to hear our dwarves can shoot across Z-levels, last thing i remember is that Toady was going to add that in the future.
