Raw change to play as humans

How do I change the raws so that I can play as humans and build a town instead of a fortress? Or is it better to use a mod ( if so which one? I like vanilla and don't really want to add anything that would detract from it)

In your \raw\objects\ folder, find entity_default.txt, scroll down to where humans are and add the [CIV_CONTROLLABE] tag. Pretty sure that's it!  :)

There is an outdated mod for 40.19.
You should be able to either use it as a template to mod the game yourself or just update it with whatever changes were made between then and .24.

Yeah, but if you just make that change, they are just humans role-playing dorfs (no new workshops, products, etc).

Well it is different in that it doesn't seem weird when you build an aboveground fortress/village and you get different weapons. Also I am pretty sure the merchants acknowledge you as humans instead of dwarves.

Meph's Masterwork mod[Check my sig for a link] has a plugin for playing as humans, but that also entails a fuckton of other stuff, so maybe not. If you just want to do it yourself, the best and simplest way to differentiate humans from dwarves is to give them some kind of negative syndrome if they go underground[Thus encouraging humans to build aboveground and mine in moderation], which is possible by having it rely on the [CAVEADAPTED] tag, or something similar. Giving them lower skillgains on mining and masonry might also help. I recommend browsing the wiki as it has some useful resources and modding and tokens, if you decide to take that route. This thread can also be helpful to an enterprising modder.

Humans get extra weapons, different/extra clothes and armour, and fewer metal types (cannot make steel). They have fewer gem cuts, and I think different decoration styles for objects.  They have different values and ethics (although I don't know how this will affect fortress mode).  They have different nobles, although I don't know how that affects gameplay in the current version (in older versions, it meant you lost access to various functions unless you modded in dwarf-style nobles).

Yeah they are fun to play as and very fast workers.
Many have goals of becoming legendary warriors.
They start with different plants. Ive just recently started. Get your steel from trading and goblin seiges. And I assume you can still use adamantium.
Dont need to drink alcohol, but they get a good mood from doing so.
Are better fighters in groups.
And have fun playing easy mode
