Modding my dwarves and embark stuff

Starting question for this
Is there a way to change the number of dwarves you get on embark?

Yes. There is a dfhack script that lets you change the amoutn of dwarves to start with. I don't know how it works exactly because I've never tried it myself, but in case it's what you intend, you're not supposed to lower your dwarf count since that causes problems. As a guess for your next question, you can increase the amount of embark points in advanced world generation, it's just one of the settings there it should be easy to find.

I know how to change embark points


How do I get DFhack?
I've only played vanilla, I have no idea what it is .-.

the startdwarf command to change the number of dwarfs with DFhack is not working with 40.23 atm  :/  (at least with the one in the starterpack)
